Get Well Soon Maria

Our darling Maria Dalbotten was in a car accident on Monday, August 21st, in Billings, Montana. After a month in the hospital (Billings for two weeks and then UW Medical Center), she is currently recovering at her parents' home in Edmonds, WA. Get Well Soon Maria is a blog to let Maria's family and friends stay updated on her recovery. Please feel free to use this blog to send your thoughts and well wishes to Maria and her family. Thank you!

Wednesday, September 6th

Goodbye Billings, Hello Seattle!!!

This morning at 7:30 am Montana time, a flight crew arrived at Maria's door to escort her via ambulance to the Billings airport, where she flew on a medical plane (Med Flight) to Boeing Field, and was transported (again by ambulance) to the University of Washington Medical Center. The Med Flight plane and ambulance transportation were LIFESAVERS - one of the things that causes Maria the most pain is having to hold her head/neck up for too long, and usually 20 minutes is too long. She was able to lay on the stretcher from hospital room to hospital room, so the journey was much more bearable for her (had she flown commercial, it would have been 8 hours of sitting up) - thank you flight crew, ambulance crew, and those who made the Med Flight possible!

Yesterday was a good last day at the Billings Clinic - Maria was visited by a lot of her favorite doctors and nurses, many of whom told her she was their favorite patient ever. . . not that that surprises any of us who know her:) She went on three long walks, and worked with her therapists on sitting down, turning, etc. . . all remarked that she wouldn't be an inpatient in Seattle for very long. The doctors have estimated a week or two, but they also thought she would be in Montana for at least a month, and she made it out in 16 days, so we'll see. . .

I'm back home now (it will be a very sad separation for me and my little patient:)) so I won't have much firsthand knowledge until I move back up to Seattle in a few weeks, but I will try to keep the blog updated as much as possible.

Her new address is:

Maria Dalbotten, Floor 8 North (Room 839, bed 2)
University of Washington Medical Center
1959 NE Pacific
Seattle, WA 98195

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers. . . Maria is doing INCREDIBLY well, but still has a long way to go on her road to recovery, so she will continue to need all of our encouragement and support!

That's great Maria. Jenny told me this morning you were taking off to Seattle. I sent another card to Montana so you probably won't get it now ... but the wasted postage is more than worth you gettin' out of there :) .

Dear Maria: It was so good to see you in person last Friday and thrilled for you and your family that you are back in Seattle - although Montana misses you already! All of us here at MCT in Missoula (along with a whole lot of Tour Veterans all over the country) continue to send good thoughts your way along with many prayers for your continuing amazing recovery. We got a call yesterday from a North Dakota man who stopped to help when the accident happened - he was so thankful and relieved to hear how well you are doing. Many thanks to Carly for putting this site together. We'll keep in touch. Hang in there, beautiful girl - keep fighting; we're with you all the way.

Maria,

I miss you already-it seems strange not to be there with you, but I know you are in good hands with the Seattle contingent taking over. I know you have to work hard to get better but don't forget to ask for anything you need to make yourself more comfortable-you are a pro at diplomatic requests-so ask away. I love you and if you are up for it Grandma and Grandpa and Mar, Ellie, and I will be up for a short visit Sunday. Love you very much. Char

Dear Maria, so very glad you are back in the Northwest... it is a sweeter place to be because of your nearness.... Are there any visitation guidelines? I pick up Katherine from the airport at 5 on Friday night, would it be okay to stop by between 6&7? Would it be better for Katherine to come alone on Saturday? (wild horses won't keep her away).....Let us know how to best see you without interfering with rest, PT and whatever other activities are planned for you.
MUch love, Gwen

Beautiful Maria,

Sorry it has taken me so long to write. I have been getting daily updates and you have constantly been in my thoughts and prayers (Michael's as well) but I have not been able to get on-line. Michael and I quit our jobs and have been traveling up California Hwy 1 for the last few weeks (VERY rural....no internet).

Hearing about your accident was heartbreaking but hearing of your phenomenal inner strength through this recovery period reconfirms what an amazing human spirit you have. Your determination is so inspiring. What incredible courage you have little Cous. I (like my sister) have tears in my eyes as I write this....thinking of all you have been through and how far you've come in such a short time.....you simply amaze us all.

So happy to hear you are home so that all of your many fans can stop in to cheer you on in person! If it's okay (I'll call your Mom) I would love to see you next week (Michael and I will be in Seattle at that point). But in the mean time....keep up the great work!

Sending you lots of love and encouragement,
Big hug,
Molly

P.S. Carly you rock! Thank you.
