Get Well Soon Maria

Our darling Maria Dalbotten was in a car accident on Monday, August 21st, in Billings, Montana. After a month in the hospital (Billings for two weeks and then UW Medical Center), she is currently recovering at her parents' home in Edmonds, WA. Get Well Soon Maria is a blog to let Maria's family and friends stay updated on her recovery. Please feel free to use this blog to send your thoughts and well wishes to Maria and her family. Thank you!

Friday, September 8th

Hi Everyone,

The update since Maria's arrival at UW is as follows (disclaimer - this is all second hand to me now so it might not be 100% accurate):

The rehab team met with Maria on Wednesday when she arrived to do an assessment. They will be keeping her quite busy - physical therapy from 9-10, speech therapy from 10-11, occupational therapy from 11-12 and 1-2 (break for lunch), and a group exercise class from 2-3 each day. Pretty exhausting! Maria is working on getting her neck brace and turtle on an off by herself - doesn't sound too tough, but it was always a struggle for two or more of us to do for her, so it will be very difficult for her to do on her own.

She has had a lot of visitors already. . . lots of family, and Kelli came last night as well. Christina has taken over the night shift, so it will be nice for Ree to have someone there when she wakes up and needs her medication. They have made a schedule so that people can coordinate visitation - I will try to post when I know who the coordinator is for those who want to visit.

We are a little concerned about her getting enough calories - she is supposed to have at least 2,000 calories per day and is having trouble getting them all in, as she can only eat certain foods, and they have to be in liquid form so that she can eat them through her squeegee/rubber straw contraption. . . but the jaw is supposed to be unwired in a little over a week, so she just has to make it until then and things will get a lot easier. Also, they are still adjusting her medications as she is still in a lot of pain. . . other than that, things are going as well as possible.

I'll try to post again as soon as I know more. . . thanks again to everyone for all of your support!

Tocaya!!

These are all good news...now you're at home and everything is going to be way different. I bet you can feel the west coast vibe! Your schedule must be pretty busy and that is always good, although I bet you are exausted by the end of the day. Here everyone thinks about you and misses you terribly.

I believe in your strength and I hope you are being patient ????? lol!Regarding the food, please drink all cravings that you usually have, like teas of different flavours, soups, milshakes...make an effort to take those 2000 cal.

I love you

Hey Reeski,
Sounds like you have a full time job with no time off. You are working so very hard and we are so incredibly proud of you and thrilled that you are doing so well! I can't wait to give you a big (& gentle) hug, but I'm going to wait until there's a lull in your schedule... if that ever happens! Just know that I'm thinking about you constantly and sending you positive healing thoughts every single day!
Love you girl!

Hi darling! Can't believe how busy they're keeping you! At least it's a distraction.....better to be busy than not, I think :)

Everyone misses you and talks about you alot over here on the east coast - you are never far from people's thoughts. I spoke to Abby yesterday and we are trying to plan a visit sometime in the near-ish future....I'll let you know when we know!

Love you!

Hey girl the news just keeps getting better. Everythng we are hearing is wonderful. I am sure it is nice being closer to home, not quite the same, but much more comfortable. It sounds like rehab will be a full time job, don't overdo it but give it 110%.

Tell the family we say hello
