Bands Are Off!!!

Hi Everyone,

So Maria had an appointment with the jaw doctor at Harborview today, and the good news is the rubber bands are off her teeth. This means she can open her mouth (as wide as she feels comfortable), stick out her tongue, brush her teeth, and speak better. The bad news is that her jaw is still wired, and she will not get it unwired for 2 weeks. Since her jaw is still healing, she still is not supposed to chew/bite things. . . her diet can be expanded a little (she can eat with a spoon and fork rather than through a straw), but everything still has to be pretty mushy, which is obviously still kind of a bummer (no sandwiches - she was really looking forward to some BREAD this afternoon). The appointment itself was kind of a nightmare as we arrived early for a 1:00 appointment and they didn't call us back until 2:30, and then the actual "un-banding" took about five minutes. Maria was very tired, and went home to take a nap so that she is well rested for Albee's arrival tonight - we are all looking forward to that!

If anyone has any fabulous recipes that are mashed-potato texture, lactose-free, acid-reflux-irritating free, and IBS appropriate, feel free to send them our way! Thanks!

my favorite food is jell-o, and i think you can have that! :) can you put bread in a blender? i'm not so sure that'd be the same, i've never heard of a bread shake, but hey, it might be worth a try!
congrats on getting those bands off! did you shoot 'em across the room?

Ree, Yeah for the bands off! I say Polenta made with a little chicken broth, butter,an egg and parm. Bread pudding also might taste good.Glad to here Albee came home. Today, I found such a great picture of you( as a little squirt) on a boat giving Albee and Will a huge bear hug. They ,of course, were loving every minute of it. Take care. I'll check in with you next week. Love you. Jo

And if she ever wants a little refreshing on how crazy the tour is, she can check out my blog at www.chrisharbur.blogspot.com
Hopefully see ya soon Maria!

Hi Maria,
I did a little quick research, and found a website featuring, believe it or not, recipes and nutrition tips for people who have their jaws wired! The author is a young professional chef who was in a car accident and had to have his jaw wired for 8 weeks. http://www.8weekswired.com/recipes.asp
I hope you can find things you like there.

Hi team,
I have an excellent method of making really creamy-textured cream soups without the cream. I'll call this weekend and maybe we can set up a good time for a cooking demo. Once you have the method down, these can be made with all different types of veggies and stock.
Legumes like lentils, cannellini beans and so on are really nutricious. When you puree them they taste delicious and take on a nice cream-like texture.
I'll call you soon,
Much love,
BL

Excellent Maria! Yet another step taken and out of the way. I'll start looking through my recipes for diet-appropriate foods that aren't beige and extremely boring. I'm most delighted for you that you can (a) open your mouth to eat/talk and (b) brush the inside of your teeth and TONGUE! That would've driven me crazy too. Love you Reeski!!! Sal

Wow zero comments it just goes to show how horribly awful it is to find tasty recipes you don't have to chew. Well Maria, I am on the hunt, hard. I will get right back to you. How do we feel about soup?
