Maria singing O Danny Boy (Uncle Rich on Piano) at Grandma and Grandpa Padden's 60th Anniversary Party, January 2006

Maria dancing with Grandma
Good afternoon, everyone -
Just a quick update on Ree's night last night and day today. She had a pretty good night last night, Alb and I had a sleepover in her room so we could monitor her a little bit, and while she was pretty good for the most part, there were definitely a couple of times where it took both of us to keep her in bed- she kept telling us that she "really had some things to take care of," or that she "just wanted to go downstairs for a minute." When we told her she couldn't get out of bed, she asked us "can't you just change your mind for once?" At one point, she told Alb and I that she just "needed some space from us" :) She definitely has times of being very aware, and then times of being very confused - the doctors tell use this is normal, because her brain is still very swollen.
She had speech therapy this morning, and then went for a tour of the hospital in her wheelchair - even outside a litle bit, but it was too hot for her. She sat up in a chair for half an hour - quite an accomplishment, as yesterday it was hard for her to hold her head up for very long. . .
She is enjoing having people read to her - we read a lot of cards and blog postings last night, and right now Dave is reading her "Little House in the Big Woods". . . she asked Alb and I for a DVD, so we are off to Target. . . Ree told the nurse that she was going to "do something fun with her parents tonight," so we'll see what we can come up with!
As always, thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

Those pics can actually be credited to me, Carly. I emailed them to you, NOT Max, haha. Anyway, Ree, glad to hear you got to wheel around the hospital. When you come back to the seattle area, clare and I are going to come back and visit you. love ya!
Oh Maria, always the activity planner. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you to sit still all day. I remember every summer you would call me bright and early and ask, "so what are our activities for the day?" even if it was just going swimming or to the beach or deciding what library movies we were going to check out. ha ha. Keep healing for me little miss. love ya! erika
Reesa- great to hear you got out of the room! I made you a CD, but now I may hold on to it until you get to Seattle, because I heard that may be happening soon ? ? ? Hope you have a good night with the parents, Margaret and I have been urning to watch the original 'parent trap' . . . just a suggestion! Keep up the healing!
Reesa~
Whenever I am feeling super bored I just give into temptation and remind myself that no one is too good for catching up on celebrity gossip. And in case you have not heard apparently there is romance in the works for Jessica Simpson and John Mayer...Crazy I know. So you may be familiar with these web sites but if not make sure the people around you are keeping you updated via www.perezhilton.com and www.pinkisthenewblog.com they are AMAZING. love you hard-kelli
Barb's bookclub buddies just wanted to send Maria and family our best wishes. We older folks are amazed by your progress, Maria, and we know that you will continue to heal with that youthful energy on your side.
Hugs to the whole family.
This may be completely psycho, but I don't even know you and I am totally worried about you every day! I found your site through Sara Brown's (don't know her either) and I imagine I am not alone reading about a stranger's life. So, I will be the dork and speak for all the strangers out here that are sending you a collective and virtual GET WELL SOON!
I love the picture of you with your grandma- you know she is totally like- 'I used to be a babe too and I can't wait for you to get better so you can go have fun and party!' Well, not that your grandma isn't a babe but you know what I mean. Okay maybe not since I am a stranger.
Anyway- you are so blessed with this supportive family and I truly hope for a speedy recovery.
I think it is amazing that Maria has such a wonderful support system in her life. She is a beautiful and wonderful person-and the Post Theatre Company cannot wait to have her back as soon as we can! Please send along our well wishes, thoughts and prayers. I think this blog is genius-thank you for doing this, because in a way, we can all be a little part of her recovery and keep in contact with her during this time.
Thanks!!!

LOVE those strangers' letters of encouragement. That's so nice of them to take the time to wish you well. You have really made an impression on a LOT of people, Maria Dalbotten. NOT surprised at all. You're a shining light; always have been and always will be.
LOVE it that you're getting to roll around now and not having to be strapped down to a bed ALL the time. That must feel like you've been given WINGS or something. Just don't fly too fast or too far too soon.
Can't WAIT for you to get "home" here in Seattle for awhile. Keep up the good work and know that thousands of people all over the world are rooting for you!
Love you! Sal
PS: Hey Ron and Beef. CanNOT wait to make you all a good dinner and give you all a good squeeze! Take care.
Hey Reesa! Glad to hear you got a bit of fresh air! It must be so hard to be confined to that bed sometimes. If you are searching for activities, Kelli's right- no one is above celebrity gossip. Besides J.Simpson and John Mayer we also having Britney's baby #2 getting ready to pop out. People.com is another good website to try. Love ya Ree, hang in there!!! You are doing fab!
Maria, Maria! I have only just found out about this blog....information is slow to trickle through to me now that I'm not at Post anymore! But I just want you to know that I pray for you everyday and I know in my heart that you will make a strong and quick recovery. Love you and miss you, Brigitte
Hey Maria,
Just heard about your accident...going to miss you and your smiles a lot this fall but hope to hear from you soon. Get better! :) Lots of love and happy, hopeful thoughts are being sent your way.
Maria,
Can you believe how big your circle of support is growing? People all over the world are rooting for you. This is when the old dinosaurs have to take back all the pitty-poo stuff they've said about the information highway!Ha! It really is a good thing.
We think about you and your whole family, everyday.
So shout it out everywhere, everyday...I'mpossible.
Hugs to all,
BL & Dutch
Dear Barb, Dave and Family - Yes, I know this is Carly's site, but I'm an old Pullmanite soo....
I have followed Maria's accident and recovery daily. You have all been in my thoughts constantly. Maria doesn't actually know me, but I feel close to her by association. I do know that she has alway been her own person (from out of the shute), and I applaud that. What a fun exciting person she is. She seems to keep things lively even from her bed of pain. She'll prabably write a play about this.
So Maria, or Reece as I've heard your mother call you, keep up the good fight. It sounds like you continue to improve and give those caring for you a run for their money. This unexpected journey you're taking will be woven into your life. As awful as it is, you will gain something and I am not a feel goody person who dishes out pap.
I'm all out of metaphors. Continue to improve. You have infinite support.
Love,
Judi
Maria and team,
Although I didn't take those pics at G&G's party (thanks for pointing out, Margaret - you are SO attentive to detail), I enjoy your singing expressions in them and can't wait to see you back at it. Hopefully you can get some internet too - that is one thing I would miss, even more than DVDs for me (although I probably wouldn't be on people.com, but still). Love you kiddo - I'm thinking about ya always.
Maria Maria, long time no talk. I'm sorry to hear about this whole thing but I'm glad you 're making progress and getting better. Get well soon so you can come back to New York and we can do big New York things.
Love and peace and have a speedy recovery!
Spencer
We are keeping you in our prayers.

I too know you Maria through association...long past friendships from WSU in the 60's. I have followed your progress daily, am touched and amazed by the tremendous support you have. What a blessing for me and everyone else to to be a part of the healing energy all directed to you. Barb and Dave, I know you feel so blessed to have such an amazing daughter...who touches others even during this painful experience.
